Psychological difficulties and mental ill-health associated with ART

Sisodia, Neelam
Abstract
This chapter deals with the potential for psychological difficulties and mental ill-health during the course of treatment for infertility or sub-fertility, with ART. The importance of screening for a personal and or family history of mental illness prior to embarking on ART, and if identified, how this can be best managed during ART, and in any pregnancy achieved with treatment and after delivery, is also discussed. Some anthropological and socio-cultural issues around infertility are described, to give context to some traditional approaches to treatment, prior to discussing some clinical case scenarios that illustrate problems that may be seen in clinical practice. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2017.
