Dapsone use in dermatology - indication, efficacy, and tolerability experience of a UK tertiary dermatology department.

Abstract
Dapsone has been a quick and affordable treatment option for a diverse range of dermatological pathologies. Though licensed for the management of leprosy and dermatitis herpetiformis, its uses expand to a range of neutrophil- and eosinophil-driven pathologies. This retrospective study assesses use of dapsone at a large tertiary dermatology department in the UK serving a diverse population. We assess indications for use and treatment efficacy, and provide three-year follow up data on clinical outcomes, adverse events, and their frequency. This data demonstrates the unpredictable efficacy of dapsone and allows dermatologists to better inform their patients regarding possible treatment success with dapsone, as well as counsel patients regarding the frequency and range of possible adverse events.
