Abstract
Comments on the editorial by John Mellor-Clark and Michael Barkham (see record 2006-09076-001). This special edition celebrates a British success story but one with international benefit. Here, the first paper outlines the evolution of CORE-OM (Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation) and its associated tools, the next three explore its implementation in routine practice from a management perspective and the final one examines its possible use as a supervisory aid. They step forward CORE-OM as a key aid in reflectivity. Innovation characterizes the two most interesting aspects of these papers: first, how the authors of the system and clinical service users have gone about making a success of CORE-OM and, second, the way in which advances in technology enable novel uses that alter practice and fundamentally change the relationship between therapists and managers and, ultimately, therapists and patients. In these papers, a window is opened onto a revolution in progress. The psychometrics and technology are in place to measure routinely whatever CORE-OM measures and demonstrate differences in outcome between services, clinicians and, probably, particular therapist-patient pairings.
