Abstract
Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is a persistent inflammatory dermatosis of the hands and wrists, usually defined as lasting longer than 3 months or recurring at least twice yearly (Ghezzi et al, 2025).
CHE is not a minor skin complaint; it may cause dryness, fissuring, pain, pruritus, sleep disturbance, impaired manual function and substantial psychosocial burden, with important effects on work, self-care and quality of life. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (2025) has recognised this burden, highlighting the significant impact of CHE on daily activities, emotional wellbeing and employment, particularly in occupations requiring repeated hand use or frequent handwashing.
For prescribers, this means that management should focus not only on visible skin improvement, but also on functional recovery and the wider consequences of living with a chronic and visible dermatosis. Table 1 summaries the key information of the delgocitinib for prescribers (Joint Formulary Committee, 2026).
