Abstract
A YOUTH-ORIENTED society leaves little scope for older people to be viewed positively. Older people, especially those with mental health difficulties, are often denied access to care and treatment because they are wrongly regarded as incurable or may even be misdiagnosed. Yet older people are a large minority in the UK population – more than 18 per cent of us are over pensionable age.
