Successes and challenges of expanding the research team and growing the portfolio of research

Abstract
UHB includes 4 main acute hospitals, Good Hope Hospital had the smallest research presence, both in research staff and studies available for our patients. Since 2019 the team has grown from 0- 4 full time members of staff as well as coverage by the Oncology/haematology that cover 2 sites. We knew we needed to ensure inclusivity and access to research both for patients and workforce, acutely aware of the growing EDI aims for our Trust and society as a whole. The pandemic showed that it could be done as we had moved staff to the site to cover covid studies and we were able to work with new PI's that now cover a none pandemic portfolio. We have also had to change infrastructure support so that studies can be supported that may include factors such as sample storage. The increased recruitment and number of studies that we now do; which is continuing to grow. Is testament to the need and importance for this site to have a research presence to provide access for our patients to research.
