Resilience in trauma and disaster
Regel, Stephen
Regel, Stephen
Abstract
This chapter examines resilience in relation to trauma and disaster. The past decade has seen an increasing focus and consensus on the importance of providing psychosocial support following disasters and complex emergencies and many professionals with expertise in palliative care are being increasingly called upon to use their experience of working with loss to assist in post-disaster interventions. This chapter explains that the psychosocial well-being of individuals and communities can be defined with reference to three core domains: human capacity, social ecology, and culture and values. © Oxford University Press 2007.
