Employment and social inclusion: Implementing the model and facing the reality

Abstract
The current economic crisis is an inescapable factor in discussions about work for people with disabilities in many European countries. Several reasons combine to make it a minor consideration. Firstly, it can be argued that there is a need to plan for the future and the anticipated improvement in the economy. Secondly, on the principle of equal opportunity, it can be argued that people facing the greatest disadvantage should get the most help into work, as a matter of justice. Finally, it is sometimes observed that the entry level and part-time jobs, which people with mental health problems often use as their stepping-stones into the labour market, may be affected less than other types of employment in a recession.
