Processes in personal development in training: The trainee's experience

Baker, Kevin L.
Coles, Steven
Abstract
The aim of this chapter was to document the personal development experiences of trainees who have undertaken clinical psychology training. The strategy for achieving this was to approach a number of recently qualified clinical psychologists to listen to their experiences and opinions. The authors sought out to hear the voices of at least six trainees who came from a variety of training courses. They had contact with a number of courses and were also able to approach trainees who had graduated from Leeds and Sheffield. Newly qualified clinical psychologists were approached and were asked to reflect on their personal development during training; comment on how their course approached personal development; say what was important and worked well; and note what did not work. The contributors' words are provided in full without changes. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
