Psychopathy and other personality disorders in sexual offenders with intellectual disabilities
Morrissey, Catrin
Morrissey, Catrin
Abstract
The presence of personality disorder can be an important factor when intervening with sexual offenders and may have an impact on case formulation, treatment approaches and on risk assessment. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the relevant literature related to personality disorder, and psychopathy in particular, both for forensic populations in general and for those with intellectual disabilities (ID). The assessment and treatment considerations for those individuals with ID who sexually offend and who may also have personality disorder will be outlined.
